MamaRoo: Gender-neutral clothing

MamaRoo, a new children's clothing company, has a strong focus on gender-neutral pieces. Martina, the founder, tells us all about the business.

Why did you start MamaRoo?

The idea for the business started from struggling to find clothing items that I liked for my two boys. I found myself going into clothing shops and seeing the same generic patterns (dinosaurs, trucks, checkered prints etc.)

I began to shop online, but the shipping costs and ways of getting the clothes on the island didn't work. Some popular brands are charging a £20 shipping fee; couple this with having goods held by customs and online shopping is no longer feasible.

As a busy working mum, I felt it would make sense to have a clothing brand available for minimalist shoppers to shop from their phone in their free time and collect when convenient for them. With two children under the age of 3, I find parking and shopping in town difficult, with less time to 'browse', and this is where MamaRoo could solve the issue.

Why are you focusing on gender-neutral clothing?

I fully believe there is a gap in the market here in Jersey for children's clothing. Not only is there a gap in this sector, but the vast gap is providing gender-neutral clothing for people who like minimalist designs. You will often walk into a shop and find it divided into boy/girl sections - as a mother of sons, I find myself shopping in the girl's area for clothes. After talking to other mother's, I found many are doing the same and struggle to find plain clothing. At MamaRoo, we are trying to combat the idea of shopping for 'pink or blue' and allow you to simply 'shop' for your child, regardless of their gender.

How regularly will stock be updated?

We will be updating stock seasonally, but this will differ. We will restock bestselling items, listen to our customers and offer something we think they will love.

What ages are available?

We are currently stocking between ages 0-5.

How can I place an order?

Orders can be placed via Instagram DMs, Facebook Messenger, or contacting our work mobile (07797 817961).

Can I collect my order?

Collections are available to make it more convenient for busy working parents. We usually need a couple of days to make sure clothing is lovingly packed, but find this the most suitable method for our customers. We also offer island-wide delivery service for £2.50 or free on any orders over £50.
